The Sunday service was already in full swing when Susan walked into Molding Destinies Church. The ushers at the door greeted her with polite smiles, though their eyes lingered a moment longer than usual.

As she made her way inside, quiet whispers rippled through a few rows. Her fitted top and jeans drew attention, not because they were inappropriate, but because she stood out in a room filled with modestly dressed worshippers.

Susan felt the weight of those stares. For a moment, she considered turning back, but then she caught sight of Richard on the altar. He was leading a short prayer before the sermon, his face calm, his tone warm and sincere. When their eyes met, he smiled gently, and that alone made her stay.

She sat at the back, head slightly bowed, listening as he spoke about God’s love finding people right where they are. His message wasn’t fiery or condemning, it was simple, filled with peace. Something about his words touched her, though she didn’t fully understand why.

After the service ended, Richard quietly asked one of the ushers to bring her to his office. She hesitated at first but followed. When she entered, he stood up to welcome her with a friendly smile.

“Thank you for coming, Susan,” he said warmly. “I honestly didn’t think you would come.”

She smiled faintly. “I almost didn’t.”

He chuckled softly. “Well, I’m glad you did.”

They talked for a while, nothing heavy, just light conversation. Richard didn’t mention sin or repentance. He didn’t want to rush her or scare her off. Instead, he focused on making her feel seen and valued.

Before she left, he asked politely, “Can I have your contact? I’d love to check up on you sometimes.”

She hesitated for a second, then nodded and gave him her number.

To her, it was just a simple gesture. But to Richard, it was more than that, it was a door God had opened, a chance to reach a soul he had been praying for.

As she walked away, he sat quietly, whispering a prayer under his breath. He didn’t know if she would come again, but he was determined to use every chance to share the message of Christ with her, one step at a time.
