Susan had barely slept in days. Her mind felt like a storm, every thought colliding with another. Nothing made sense anymore. The things that once excited her now disgusted her. The laughter that used to fill her nights felt hollow. She didn’t recognize herself.

Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Richard’s face, the kindness she mocked, the calm she tried to destroy, and the peace that never left his eyes no matter how broken she was. She felt something tugging at her heart, something she couldn’t explain.

Finally, she whispered to herself, “I can’t keep living like this. I need to see him.”

This time, it wasn’t a trick. It wasn’t a plan. She needed answers, and she needed peace. That evening, with shaky hands, she typed out a message:

“I’ll be coming to church on Sunday. I need to speak to you, but first I’ll clear everything. I can’t keep quiet anymore.”

She hesitated before pressing send, but the moment she did, a strange calm settled over her heart.

Richard had just returned from his prayer retreat, his mind still full of the words he had received: “She is the bone of your bone, the flesh of your flesh.” The weight of that revelation pressed heavily on him.

He unlocked his apartment door and was setting down his small bag when his phone buzzed. Seeing Susan’s name, he paused. For a moment, his heart jumped, then he read the message.

His eyes widened in disbelief. She wanted to come to church and confess publicly?

He sat on the edge of his bed, the phone still in his hand. “She really wants to do this?” he murmured, shaking his head. Her courage surprised him, but it also worried him. The church could be harsh. People might not see her repentance, they might only see her past.

And then, there was the greater burden, the revelation. God had called her his bone and flesh. How could he face his congregation, his parents, and even Charles with that truth?

A woman from the streets, a woman whose name stirred gossip, was the one destined to stand beside him?

He ran his hand through his hair, sighing deeply. “Lord, this won’t be easy,” he whispered. “You’ve given me a calling that will shake everything I know.”

As the night deepened, he stared at Susan’s message again. She was ready to face the world. But was he ready to face what God had revealed?
