The evening sun painted the Lagos skyline with shades of gold and crimson. From the rooftop of Molding Destinies Church, the city below buzzed with life, car horns, laughter, and the distant beat of Afro music filling the air.
Richard leaned against the rail, the Bible still in his hand, his heart quietly at peace. He had just finished ministering to the youths about purity and purpose, and as always, they listened to him like he carried heaven’s voice. His smile was calm but firm, his eyes deep, like someone who saw beyond the present world.
Born into a strong Christian home, Richard’s life was woven with faith from childhood. His parents had raised him on daily prayers and Sunday school lessons. He never strayed from that light, even as success began to crown his efforts in the tech world. Together with his best friend Charles, he co-owned Innovatech Solutions, one of the fastest-growing software companies in Nigeria.
Charles was his opposite in many ways. Charming, witty, and dangerously handsome, he had a way with people and especially women. To Charles, life was to be lived fully, one thrill at a time. Church for him was more like a routine, not a conviction. He believed in God, but not in the discipline that came with walking closely with Him. Still, he admired Richard deeply, even when he teased him for “acting like a prophet in a tech suit.”
The two bachelors were the talk of the church. Every Sunday, whispers floated through the women’s group:
“Have you seen how fine Pastor Richard looks today?”
“Charles too, that one is a sweet talker!”
But Richard wasn’t swayed. He was waiting for something deeper, for the woman God Himself would reveal. To him, marriage was not a trophy to flaunt, but a calling to fulfill.
