Richard sat in his office one quiet evening, starring at Susan’s message on his phone. Her apology had softened something in him, but it also stirred questions he couldn’t ignore.
He wasn’t sure if what he felt was compassion, confusion, or something deeper, something that frightened him more than temptation ever could.
He knew he needed space, time to seek clarity before his heart led him astray. So he took a break from everything, the church, work, and even Charles’ teasing presence.
He packed a small bag and left for a private prayer retreat outside Lagos, a quiet hillside where he often went to fast and hear from God.
The days were long and silent. He prayed, read, and wept before God, asking, “Lord, what are You doing? Why her? Why these feelings?”
By the third day, his body was weak, but his spirit was alert. As he knelt in prayer, a strange stillness filled the small room. It wasn’t the kind of silence that felt empty, it was alive, deep, and powerful.
Then, softly, a voice rose within his spirit, gentle, yet clear like the dawn. "She is the bone of your bone, the flesh of your flesh. Together, you will dominate the world."
Richard’s eyes widened, tears streaming down his face. He stayed still, overwhelmed by the weight of those words. He didn’t move for a long while, his heart pounding with awe and disbelief.
“Lord,” he whispered, trembling, “is this truly You?”
The peace that followed answered him better than words. His doubts melted into stillness. He finally understood, it wasn’t just about saving Susan’s soul. God had a purpose beyond what he could see.
When he stood up, weak but renewed, a quiet smile touched his lips. He didn’t know how or when, but he knew one thing for sure, his journey with Susan had only just begun.
