Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Richard had still not heard from Susan. Many times, he thought of calling her, but each time he stopped himself.
He didn’t want to force her to speak before she was ready. So, he decided to wait a little longer, hoping she would reach out when the time was right.
Susan, on the other hand, had decided it was best to stay away from Richard. Even if everything about the dream was true, she believed that the possibility of them being together was impossible.
To keep herself grounded, she began attending a nearby church, trying to fill the void. But it wasn’t enough. She missed the peace that came with Richard’s voice, the calm way he spoke about God and life.
One evening, unable to bear the weight of silence anymore, she told herself, “I’ll tell him everything. The worst that can happen is he stays away... and that’s fine.” She picked up her phone, typed out every detail of her dreams, leaving nothing out, and sent it to him.
At that time, Richard and Charles were out of the country for a business trip. They planned to return before Sunday so Richard could handle his church duties.
After a long meeting, they stopped by a restaurant for dinner. While Richard was sipping water, a WhatsApp notification appeared on his phone. He glanced at it and froze...it was a message from Susan.
Her name alone made his heart skip. It had been so long since the last time he heard from her. As he began reading, his face unconsciously brightened.
Charles noticed immediately. “Guy, what’s making you smile like that?” he teased, trying to peek at the phone screen.
Richard quickly locked his phone and placed it face down on the table. Charles raised an eyebrow. “Now that’s strange. Since when do you hide messages?” he asked suspiciously.
“It’s nothing serious,” Richard said quickly, forcing a small smile. “Just church stuff.” He changed the topic before Charles could probe further.
Later that night, when Richard got back to his hotel room, he sat on the edge of the bed and unlocked his phone again. He read Susan’s message slowly, carefully, taking in every line of her words. When he finished, he sat still for a long time, the phone resting in his hand.
Everything connected, the revelation he received at the mountain, his mentor’s advice, and now Susan’s dreams. There were no more questions left.
He finally typed his reply: “Susan, I got your message. I’m not in town right now, but when I get back, we’ll talk about everything.”
He hit send, placed the phone beside him, and leaned back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, his mind full, his heart at peace but trembling all the same.
