When Chinonso returns to the isolated village of Umoya to bury his father, he expects grief, silence, and a quick departure. Instead, he finds a village that refuses to let him leave. The coffin is empty. The villagers speak in whispers. And the soil in the cemetery moves as if something beneath it is breathing. Soon, Chinonso discovers the terrifying truth behind Umoya’s ancient secret: the dead do not stay buried. The earth itself remembers every body placed inside it, and when night falls, it begins to give them back. But the returning dead are not the only horror. The village guards the secret fiercely, the spirits beneath the ground are growing restless, and the longer Chinonso stays, the more the soil begins to recognize him.
