Amanda's smile disappeared.
She took a slow breath before turning to face the young man.
"Kelvin..."
He stopped a few steps away, his eyes moving from Amanda to David.
"So this is the reason you stopped answering my calls?"
Amanda shook her head.
"No. This has nothing to do with David."
Kelvin frowned.
"Then why?"
Amanda folded her arms.
"Because I was tired."
"Tired of what?"
"Tired of being hurt."
David remained silent.
He didn't know the full story, and he wasn't about to interfere.
Kelvin sighed.
"I know I made mistakes."
Amanda looked at him quietly.
"Mistakes?"
Her voice trembled.
"You made promises you never kept. Every time we argued, you disappeared for days. Then you came back with apologies, expecting everything to be normal."
Kelvin lowered his head.
"I've changed."
Amanda gave a faint smile.
"I hope you have."
There was a long silence.
Finally, she continued.
"But I had to change too. I had to choose peace."
Kelvin looked at David again.
"Are you two together?"
Amanda glanced at David before answering.
"No."
David looked surprised.
Amanda continued,
"But he's someone who has shown me kindness without asking for anything in return."
Kelvin nodded slowly.
"I understand."
For the first time since he arrived, his expression softened.
"I really am sorry, Amanda."
"I know."
"And I hope one day you'll forgive me."
Amanda smiled gently.
"I already have."
Kelvin gave a small nod.
"Take care of yourself."
"You too."
Without another word, he turned around and walked away.
David waited until Kelvin was out of sight before speaking.
"You okay?"
Amanda let out a deep breath.
"I am now."
"I'm sorry you had to go through that."
She smiled.
"It's part of my past."
They began walking toward the bus stop.
The evening breeze was cool, and for a while, neither of them spoke.
Finally, Amanda broke the silence.
"You know... I almost blocked your number the night I realized I'd texted the wrong person."
David laughed.
"Really?"
She nodded.
"I thought, 'This stranger will probably think I'm weird.'"
"And now?"
Amanda looked at him with a warm smile.
"Now I'm glad I didn't."
David smiled back.
"So am I."
Amanda's bus pulled up.
Before getting on, she turned around.
"See you tomorrow?"
David nodded.
"I'll be waiting."
She smiled and boarded the bus.
David watched until it disappeared down the road.
For the first time, he realized something important.
Sometimes, moving forward meant letting the past stay where it belonged.
And for Amanda...
That chapter had finally closed.
