A week passed.
The days were filled with texts.
The nights belonged to long phone calls.
Somewhere along the way, David and Amanda had become part of each other's daily lives.
One Saturday afternoon, while David was watching a football match, his phone buzzed.
Amanda: Can I ask you something?
David laughed to himself.
David: You always say that before asking a serious question.
Amanda: Because this one is serious.
David: I'm listening.
A few seconds passed before her next message arrived.
Amanda: When are we finally going to meet?
David stared at the screen.
He had wanted to ask the same question for days, but he was afraid of ruining what they had.
He smiled as he typed.
David: I was hoping you'd ask first.
Amanda immediately replied.
Amanda: 😂 So... next Saturday?
David: Deal.
After discussing it for a while, they agreed to meet at Blue Bean Café at exactly 2:00 p.m.
Amanda: Promise you won't stand me up?
David: Only if you promise not to send another wrong text before then.
Amanda replied with a string of laughing emojis.
During the week, David couldn't hide his excitement.
At work, Tobi noticed immediately.
"You don dey press your phone pass normal," he teased.
David smiled.
"I have plans this weekend."
"A date?"
David shrugged.
"I don't know if it's a date."
Tobi laughed.
"If you're ironing your shirt three days early, my brother, it's a date."
Both of them burst into laughter.
At the hostel, Amanda stood in front of her wardrobe.
Chioma watched from her bed.
"You've changed clothes four times."
Amanda sighed.
"I don't know what to wear."
Chioma grinned.
"So the wrong-number guy is finally becoming the right meeting."
Amanda threw a pillow at her.
"Stop calling him that."
"But am I lying?"
Amanda couldn't help smiling.
"No."
Saturday finally arrived.
David got to the café five minutes early.
His heart pounded as he stepped inside.
He looked around.
A young woman seated near the window looked up at the exact same moment.
Their eyes met.
Both of them froze.
Amanda slowly stood.
Her eyes widened.
"You...?"
David felt his heart skip a beat.
He knew that face.
Not because of a picture.
Because he had seen her countless times before.
Without realizing it...
They had been crossing paths for months.
