Chapter 11: The Words That Matters

David didn't go home.

Instead, he headed straight to Crown Supermarket.

Amanda was helping a customer at the checkout counter when she looked up.

The moment their eyes met, her face lit up.

"David!"

She quickly excused herself and walked around the counter.

Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around him.

David hugged her back, smiling.

"I missed you too."

Amanda suddenly realized where they were and stepped back, embarrassed.

"Sorry... everyone's staring."

David glanced around.

A few customers were smiling at them.

"It's okay," he said with a grin. "I don't mind."

Amanda laughed, her cheeks turning red.

After her shift ended, they walked to the small park a few streets away.

The evening air was cool, and the trees swayed gently in the breeze.

For a while, they simply walked in comfortable silence.

Finally, David stopped.

"Amanda."

She turned to him.

"Do you remember the first message you ever sent me?"

She laughed.

"How could I forget? I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me that day."

David smiled.

"I've kept that message."

"You did?"

He nodded.

"At first, it was just a funny mistake."

He paused, choosing his words carefully.

"But somewhere between the good morning texts, the late-night calls, and the endless conversations..."

He looked into her eyes.

"...you stopped being a stranger."

Amanda felt her heartbeat quicken.

David took a slow breath.

"I've met a lot of people in my life."

"But you're the first person who made me believe that the best things can happen when we least expect them."

His voice softened.

"You've become my favorite part of every day."

Amanda's eyes glistened.

"I don't know what the future holds."

"I don't know what challenges we'll face."

"But I do know one thing."

He smiled.

"I love you, Amanda."

Silence.

Amanda lowered her eyes for a moment as tears rolled gently down her cheeks.

When she looked up again, she was smiling.

"You know..."

She laughed softly through her tears.

"I've been waiting for you to say those words."

David chuckled nervously.

"You have?"

She nodded.

"Ever since you stayed on the phone with me at the hospital."

She took a step closer.

"I fell in love with your kindness before I ever saw your face."

David felt his throat tighten.

Amanda reached for his hand.

"And yes..."

She smiled warmly.

"I love you too."

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

They simply stood there, hands intertwined, smiling like two people who had finally found exactly what they didn't know they were looking for.

Above them, the evening sky slowly faded into night.

And somehow...

Everything felt just right.
