Never Make Me Feel Safe Inside Lies is not a book about villains. Every character in these pages who withholds something is, in their own way, trying to protect someone — themselves, the people they love, or the fragile peace they've built out of years of practice. I wanted to write a story that took that impulse seriously, instead of flattening it into simple betrayal, because I think most real heartbreak is more complicated than that, and more human. This book is set in a Lagos and an Enugu that are, I hope, recognizable and specific — the markets, the traffic, the particular texture of a Sunday afternoon — because the story felt like it could only happen here, among people shaped by exactly this mix of warmth, dignity, and inherited caution. I hope you find, somewhere in these pages, permission to ask for the truth — even when it costs something. Especially then.
