The rain started suddenly.
Heavy. Relentless. Unforgiving.
Amara stood under the weak shelter of a bus stop, clutching her bag tightly as the wind pushed rain in every direction. Her umbrella had failed minutes ago, flipping uselessly against the storm.
Her phone battery blinked red.
1%.
She exhaled sharply.
Perfect.
The campus was nearly empty now, students having rushed off before the rain worsened. The sky was dark, the roads wet and quiet.
For the first time in a long while, Amara felt something unfamiliar.
Helplessness.
She hugged herself slightly, trying to stay calm, but the cold seeped in, and with it, a quiet sense of loneliness.
Then—
“Amara!”
She turned.
And there he was.
Daniel.
Running toward her through the rain, completely soaked, his shirt clinging to him, his breath uneven.
Her eyes widened. “What are you doing here?”
“I came back,” he said, trying to catch his breath.
“For me?” she asked, almost in disbelief.
He looked at her like the answer was obvious.
“Of course.”
Something inside her cracked.
Not fear.
Not resistance.
Something softer.
Something she had been holding back for too long.
“You didn’t have to,” she said quietly.
“I wanted to,” he replied.
The rain fell harder around them, but in that moment, it didn’t matter.
For once, Amara didn’t look away.
For once, she didn’t hide.
And as she stood there, staring at him—really seeing him—she realized something she had been avoiding:
She wasn’t invisible anymore.
And maybe…
She didn’t want to be.
THE END THE END
