“Some truths don’t arrive gently. They crash into your life and demand to be faced.”

Synopsis

After witnessing David’s breakdown at the hospital, Amara finally confronts him again. But the truth he reveals is far more complicated and heartbreaking than she expected.

That night, I couldn’t pretend anymore.

“David,” I said as he walked into the living room.

He looked exhausted.

“Yes?”

“I went to the hospital today.”

His entire body froze.

“You… what?”

“I followed you.”

Silence filled the room.

Then he slowly sat down.

“You saw Grace.”

“Yes.”

I took a deep breath.

“What did she tell you?”

He stared at the floor for a long time.

Finally, he spoke.

“Something that changes everything.”

My heart pounded.

“What?”

His voice trembled slightly.

“The doctors aren’t sure how I got infected.”

My mind struggled to understand.

“What does that mean?”

“They think…” he paused.

“They think it might have happened years ago.”

Years?

My heart began racing again.

“Before we got married?”

He nodded slowly.

The room spun around me.

“Then why are you only finding out now?” I whispered.

David looked up.

Tears filled his eyes again.

“Because the virus can stay hidden in the body for years.”

My knees felt weak.

“But that means…”

My voice trailed off.

Because a new fear had just entered my mind.

If David had been infected before our marriage…

Then what did that mean for me?

And for the children?

David’s voice broke as he spoke the next words.

“You need to get tested too.”

And suddenly, the scariest part of the story wasn’t David’s diagnosis anymore.

It was mine.

To be continued…
