After that evening, things didn’t go back to normal… at least not completely.
Daniel was still caring. Still calling. Still acting like the same boy I fell in love with.
But something had changed.
It was subtle… almost invisible.
If you weren’t paying attention, you wouldn’t notice it.
But I did.
He started checking his phone more often.
Sometimes, we would be talking and he would suddenly go quiet… like his mind had traveled somewhere else.
“Daniel?” I would call.
“Hmm? I’m here,” he would reply quickly, forcing a smile.
But it didn’t feel real.
One evening, he came to see me.
I could tell immediately that something was on his mind.
He didn’t joke like he usually did. Didn’t tease me. Didn’t even smile properly.
“Aisha… I need to tell you something,” he said.
The way he said it made my heart beat faster.
“What is it?” I asked, sitting up.
He hesitated.
That alone scared me.
Daniel never hesitated.
“There’s this man…” he finally said.
I frowned.
“What man?”
“He’s very rich. Like… very, very rich,” Daniel continued.
“He helps people. Especially young girls… gives them opportunities.”
I blinked.
“Opportunities?” I repeated slowly.
“Yes,” he said quickly. “School support, connections, money… things like that.”
I didn’t say anything.
Something about the conversation felt strange already.
Then he said it.
“He noticed you.”
For a few seconds, I just stared at him.
“Me?” I asked, almost laughing.
“Yes, you,” he said, trying to sound normal.
“I showed him your pictures… told him how smart and respectful you are.”
I didn’t know how to feel.
Part of me felt shy… even a little excited.
But another part of me felt… uncomfortable.
“Why would you show someone my pictures?” I asked quietly.
Daniel paused.
Just for a second.
But I noticed.
“I just wanted to help you,” he said.
“You deserve better, Aisha.”
That sentence again.
“You deserve better.”
He had been saying it a lot lately.
“There’s a birthday party this weekend,” he continued.
“He wants you to come.”
The moment he said that… my chest tightened.
“A party?” I asked.
“Yes. Just a normal party,” he replied quickly.
“I’ll be there with you. You won’t be alone.”
I looked at him carefully.
“Daniel… are you sure about this?”
For the first time since I met him…
He avoided my eyes.
“Don’t you trust me?” he asked softly.
That question hit me harder than anything else.
Of course I trusted him.
He was my boyfriend.
The one who cared. The one who promised me a future.
So why was I hesitating?
Still… that feeling didn’t go away.
That quiet voice inside me…
Something isn’t right.
“I don’t know…” I said slowly.
Daniel held my hand.
His grip was warm… familiar… comforting.
“Aisha,” he said, looking straight into my eyes now,
“I would never do anything to hurt you.”
That was the moment everything changed.
Because I believed him.
Completely.
“Okay,” I said finally.
“I’ll go.”
The way his face lit up… you would think I had just made him the happiest person in the world.
He pulled me into a hug.
“Thank you,” he whispered.
But as he held me…
I noticed something.
His heartbeat was fast.
Too fast.
Like someone who was nervous.
Or afraid.
That night, after he left, I couldn’t sleep.
I kept thinking about the man who had been watching me.
The strange way Daniel had been acting.
The party.
Everything.
My phone buzzed.
It was Daniel.
“Don’t overthink anything,” the message read.
“Just trust me ❤️”
I stared at the screen for a long time.
Then I typed:
“I trust you.”
I didn’t know…
That those three words…
Would be the biggest mistake of my life.
To be continued… (Part 3 is where everything goes wrong 😳)
