It was Alex's birthday, and she had planned a camping trip in the woods with her closest friends, Emma, Jack, Rachel, and Mike. They gathered at her house, eager to spend the night telling scary stories, playing games, and enjoying each other's company.
As they sat around the campfire, swapping ghost stories and roasting marshmallows, Alex suggested they play a game called The Dreadful Evil Game. "I saw it on TV," she said with a mischievous grin, "but it's funny how people always die at the end of it all.
The group burst into laughter, exchanging curious glances as they wondered what kind of game it could possibly be.
Rachel shrugged and smiled. “Come on, it’s just a game. Let’s check it out.”
Emma laughed nervously, trying to sound confident. “I’m going to be the only one left alive. I can already see all of you dying.”
Amidst the laughter, Jack jokingly shouted, "I'm scared! I don't want to die!" Mike replied saying "Let's play!"
Alex explained the rules, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "Each player takes turns choosing either 'truth' or 'dare'. If you pick 'truth', you have to answer a question truthfully. If you choose 'dare', you have to complete a task. If you don't answer a question or complete a task, you're out of the game."
As Alex continued, the atmosphere around the campfire began to shift. The air grew colder, and a sense of unease settled over the group.
"But here's the thing," Alex said, her voice dripping with drama. "As we keep playing, the game gets harder and twisted. There's a penalty for losing out on the next level, and the game doesn't end until only one player is left. That player becomes the winner."
Jack smiled wryly and said, "You mean the only one left alive?" The group laughed again, but this time, the laughter was tinged with a sense of foreboding.
As they agreed to start the game, they suddenly found themselves standing in an open clearing deep within a dark, unfamiliar forest. Tall trees surrounded them, their twisted branches blocking out what little moonlight remained.
For a moment, no one spoke.
Then Rachel noticed something on a nearby tree.
Carved boldly into the rough bark was a message written in thick, blood-red letters:
“WELCOME TO THE "DREADFUL EVIL GAME.”
